Watt Density is a measurement of the amount of energy being applied to the web. It is measured in Watts/Foot2/minute. Watt density takes into account the amount of power being applied (watts), the time it is being applied (minute) and the amount of material it is being applied to (Foot2).
Watt Density is important because once it is known to get a material to a certain dyne level, it can be used to predict results if any parameters change. It can also measure the required power at a certain line speed and the maximum speed capacity.
Power Supply Output (watts)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- = Watt Density
Active Treat Width (ft) x Line Speed (ft/min) x Number of Treatment Sides
Watt Density = (watts/ft2/min)
Power Supply Output = Wattage of Power Supply Output
Active Treat Width = The length of the area directly exposed to corona
Line Speed = Speed of line in ft/min
Number of Treatment Sides = How many sides are being treated
